I have heard Irish tunes played on the hurdy gurdy - tune it to D somehow,
or play them in G, another traditional key...

And if you consider Galicia as part of the "Celtic world", there's a whole
different tradition to get acquainted with, in one of the birthplaces of the
HG (they call it zanfona).
