Welcome McKenna--

I find a somewhat cheaper version of surgical tubing works well-- I just use a long (10-15 ft.) rope of rubber bands looped together, then wrap over and around the body of the instrument to a plywood base the shape of the body with finishing nails poking out from the edge( this is with a flat-backed instrument-- a rounded back requires a contoured base). With care not to wrap too tightly, the rubber band rope won't dent or otherwise damage the fragile edges of the soft spruce (or other wood) soundboard. I've also used small diameter bungee cord and elastic, but find that the fabric covering of them can easily indent the edges. Cheap, effective and non-marring!

Hi McKenna,
Congratulations on your machine! I usually clamp
the rounded tops and back on my instruments using
surgical rubber tubing, easy and cheap. Vacuum would be
good but more complex.

I can send you a picture if you'd like.
