Has anyone tried Pistoy twisted gut for lower chanters? Gamut Strings (Dan Larson, gamutstrings.com) makes them. I think I have this right: three high twist strands twisted together in the opposite direction--like rope--and smoothed (not polished afterward). They have uniform density throughout, and because of the "roping", they are more flexible than an equivalent diameter of plain gut. I thought maybe they would be more responsive than plain gut. I have used them on the lute, but not on the hurdy-gurdy (no low chanterelles).
