Wow - you are close Joel - I live near Fredericksburg VA - and I count that
pretty close since the Orioles are worth driving to Baltimore for....thanks for
the offer!

Your Chinook - I like the way they look - is it all wood? It is difficult to
see on the web, How long did you have to wait for it? Alden said it is
currently around four to six months when I talked with him a week or two ago.
My friend's ORCA is also very well made and he plays well already....but he is
also a terrific player of the bagpipes....

Do you have a teacher - or is it just you and the books....?
  Cheers - Terry

                Hello Terry, and welcome!

I live in Baltimore, MD and I took delivery of a beautiful Chinook in
October. If that is not too far for you, you are welcome to come see it. At
this early stage I am not getting much music out of it yet but I have the
patience and the time to stick with it, and I am looking forward to enjoying it
for many years. To look at it you would never know it is a production
instrument rather than custom – the joinery, the inlay, and the finish are
superb.

  Best regards,

  Joel Hoshaw

Subject: [HG] Hello

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself. Like Joe, I don't own a Hurdy
Gurdy yet, but I am going to order one VERY SOON - 'cos I can't stand it I have
to have one and learn it!!!

I am in love with the sound....

You guys have posted great advice here about buying them - thank you.

I especially think the point about buying the best you can afford makes
sense, they sounds like very finicky and particular instruments, no sense in
making it hard to sound good by buying cheap.

Does anyone live in Virginia or the Metro DC area? I have only met one
Hurdy Gurdy player here in Virginia, he was kind enough to let me come and see
his ORCA that he just got in April 2007, it sounds beautiful. Would love to
meet some other players too. Also - if anyone ever has a Hurdy Gurdy for sale
do they post on this website to let everyone know?

I was excited to get Doreen Muskett's book for Christmas....so I am reading
the details!

I llive in Virginia, on a farm, raise sheep and work for an insurance
company, I am also learning to play Dulcimer. Nice to meet you all -

Hope everyone on this website has a Very Happy New Year!

    TerryD
