If I might throw in my two farthings' worth: Judging by the pose of the gurdyist , with his left hand on the body of the instrument, it seems as if the artist was most likely copying a depiction of a two-man organistrum; either through forgetfulness, or the need to compress the drawing, he then left out the neck & keybox...
