It works fine for me (don't access the web). Are you sure you use http://hibernate.sourceforge.net/hibernate-mapping-3.0.dtd and not http://hibernate.sourceforge.net/hibernate-mapping-2.0.dtd in your mappings.
The DTDEntityResolver try to search in org/hibernate before the web when an url starting with http://hibernate.sourceforge.net/ is found.
