- Offering both 1 and 3 might also be an option, keep old queries working and tell people to use 3 if they want to do scalar queries - leads to API bloat and added confusion.

Put the old one Class[] on the classic session and deprecate it, and the new one with Type[] on the new session.

Implemented that and added a revised patch too http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/hibernate/browse/HB-454
