Palestine - The Silent Holocaust
I was just thinking about the 10 week film series some of us are planning called "Palestine - The Silent Holocaust" which will cover the struggle for Palestinian human rights, land, reparations and self-determination. I can already hear the thunder of the pro-Zionist Israeli lobby and media calling us biased, one-sided and eminently anti-Semitic.
When all the films, documentaries, interviews, book reviews and radio shows are aired about the Holocaust against the Jewish people, it would be insulting and absurb to call them biased and one-sided because they don't give equal time to the Nazis' point of view. (Even though Holocaust shows almost always totally exclude the killing of the gypsies, disabled, Poles, homosexuals, and other genocides throughout past and recent history and of course the genocide of the Palestinians.) Yet when we host our Palestinian film series they will call us biased and anti-Semitic when we don't give equal time to the Zionist Israeli point of view. This is not a battle of equals - Israel is the oppressor, Palestinians are the oppressed. Why shouldn't we focus on Palestinian suffering? Is someone racist to have sided against the white minority rulers in South Africa in favour of the black
majority? No. The whites were the oppressors, the blacks were the oppressed. Whatever, we will go ahead and do our film series, we will be truthful and factual, and we will put the focus where the focus deserves to be - on the disenfranchised Palestinians. Let the chips fall where they may, we have strong backbones and the truth on our side. Pro-Israeli Zionists cannot silence the truth forever regardless of the tactics used.
If "Israel" truly only wants security, rather than the rest of historic Palestine, then they need to stop Israeli violence against Palestinians and give the Palestinians security.
Some of why I'm thinking about this this morning is because I heard Nahla Ayed on CBC Radio News this morning use the words "Jewish communities" in reference to Zionist Israeli colonial settlements in Gaza. It makes me sick that the pro-Israeli lobby has so much power at CBC to put those words in an Arab mouth.
