Canada stands firm against the space militarization program

Date:   7-03-2005

The Canadian Muslim Forum (CMF) congratulates the Prime Minister of Canada, the honourable Paul Martin, and the Canadian government for its decision not to participate in the American anti-missile defence system.

In the era of the American unilateralism, and American intrusion and interference in the internal affairs of sovereign nations, the Canadian government’s decision sends a clear message to the United States that Canada sees the ‘star war’  program as incongruent with its national interests and sets an example to other sovereign eastern and western nations that national policies and interests be respected and not be compromised by the threat of the US continental and international interests and power projections.

The refusal of the Canadian government to be involved in the American anti-missile defence system is based on the Canadian principle of sovereignty and its international role as a peace-making and peace keeping nation. It is both ethically and politically correct to take a firm stand against the space militarization programs and invest, instead, more funds in both social and job creation programs.

The Canadian Muslim Forum congratulates again the Canadian government for its stand on this national defence issue, and for being more attentive to the national aspirations and concerns of the majority of Canadians.
