assalammualaikum...

i'd like to comment on this good example captured on a
flight, though it is a good act, i must say that the
beauty of Islam is, the religion never asked its ummah
to be burdened or to endanger themselves in any
circumstances, that is why, while travelling, we are
given the allowance to jama' and qasar our prayers to
make it convenient for us to be in the journey. As a
person who had served in the airline industry in
in-flight services itself, the act that was captured
in the picture would be a very dangerous act. As a
crew, we normally advised muslims who wish to pray on
board during cruising to pray on their seats. This is
because, turbulence at 36,000 ft above sea level can
sometimes strike anytime without warning and may cause
fatality or serious injury. This is something
passengers normally do not understand or maybe not
aware of, and a lot of times when the crews tried to
stop them from risking their lives and of other
passengers, they ended up in arguments and accused of
being insensitive to the requirements of Islam, the
thing is, Islam never made it difficult for the ummah
to practise its teachings...

Just to share with u all, once on my trip to
johannesburg, when the aircraft was set to auto-pilot,
and the crews were clearing the cabin after serving
the passengers dinner, the captain noticed highland
right infront of us in the navigation display that
caused him to immediately climb to a higher altitude.
You can imagine what went on in the cabin with all
trays went flying above passengers head and few of the
passengers and crews struggled to grab anything to
hold on to. Lesson number One>>Accidents do happen,
and what happened was, the highland was not on the
report produced for the cockpit crews before the
flight and until today they still do not know whether
it was really a highland... Lesson number two>>
strange things do occur in the air. Lesson number
three>> other than air pockets (vacuumed hole in the
air) that can cause servere turbulence, foreign object
debris like birds, irregular wind flow, weather (i.e.
monsoon season) can also cause turbulence...check this
website below for further understanding of safety in
mid air....

this is just my view, as a muslim, i have no
objections to people wanted to fulfil their obligation
in fulfillig the requirements in our religion, it's
just that sometimes, it is best to respect the
authority because every rules is set for a certain
reasons.

thank you. massalama!
