The Muslim Association of Britain have urged
Muslims to take part in a vigil this Sunday to show solidarity with the
victims of the London bombings.
The organisation will co-organise the
event with the Stop the War Coalition and the CND, who also wish to make a
stand against the Islamophobic attacks that have taken place over the last
few days.
Yesterday a Nottingham Muslim was killed in an attack
by a gang, while mosques have been targeted across the country.
Commenting, Anas Altikriti, spokesperson for MAB
said:
Muslims are as horrified by the atrocity in London as
everyone else, and we call on the community to further demonstrate this on
Sunday. It is doubly frustrating for us, as some
sections of society expect us to look within ourselves and deal with those
who want to kill and maim. The reality though is that these people arent
even a minority they are a tiny handful and we dont know who or where
they are. Certainly if I ever came across anyone with this kind of
tendency anywhere in the country, I wouldnt have any hesitation in
reporting them to the authorities. So its wrong to
blame all Muslims for whats happened. To do that is almost to adopt the
logic of the bombers. They are angry at the Western elite for their role
in Muslim lands, but in response attack innocent people. In the same way
we cannot blame innocent Muslims for the mindless actions of a
few.[ENDS]
