Hmm...this is another interesting bit from an oppostion leader.
 
The Failure of the New Economic Policy. The level of poverty still exist especially amonst the Malays; the gap of have and have-nots, between the rural and urban areas, and even amonst the supporters of Umno. This said the Deputy President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Dr. Syed Husin Ali, was due to several Umno and goverment officials practicing nepotism and corruption.
Seriously! But I thought the Umno leaders vehemently deny this...but, there it goes; one does not need to be poitically-wise to observe this. What, with all the mega and major projects awarded through closed-tenders...and many of them to fail or lack the finish quality. But hey, so what, its the people's money!
 
"For more than 50 years the Federal Government where Umno is the main party of a coalition of parties, have instituted various policies and projects to raised the economic level of the Malays, but the Malays are still lagging behind. Thus, what guarantee is there that it can be achieved within 15 years to meet the 2020 deadline?"
Given a few more years, one could have nearly 3 generation of people in a family. A more notable achievement?
 
"Can it be achieved through mere talks and debates as the norm in the annual Umno Conventions alone? Or, should the Malays be continously blamed when their leaders does not change their corrupt practices?" 
I thought leaders are people who admit to failure when the people they lead fails! Seem that is not the practice here. Well, that is what you can expect from No Action, Talk Only.
 
Dr. Syed also mentioned that though there truly exist non-level playing field between the races, the leaders should not continue using it as an excuse. What about the non-level playing field within the races itself?
They cannot admit to that. That would be admitting to the existing discrimination of people not align to their political torts and aspirations...what ever they are.
 
The PKR also dared the government to name the Bumiputera(Malays, namely) who 'sell off' the projects awarded to contractors and businessmen of other races. The PKR believes if such practice do exist the culprits are Malays who are close or have political link to Umno and Umno-led coalition, the Barisan Nasional.
Believe I mentioned it in my much earlier posting. But hey, that's an open secret.

In the recent Umno Convention, delegates alleged the lagging of the Malays and 'sell-off' of projects are still a serius matter. Indirectly, the efforts by the Umno-led government have not bear fruits.
Year after year, its the same old story...yet, these very people not only vote for failures, but strive to ensure the failures stay in power. Why are they complaining?
 
"As publicly known, things have not changed much for the majority of the common Malays, or that they are still lagging further behind", he said.

Timbalan Presiden Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Dr Syed Husin Ali mendakwa Dasar Ekonomi Baru (DEB) gagal kerana sesetengah pemimpin Umno dan kerajaan memberi kekayaan kepada segelintir orang Melayu dan bukan-Melayu melalui amalan kronisme dan korupsi.

Menurutnya, di kalangan orang Melayu sendiri masih wujud jurang di antara yang kaya dengan yang miskin, di antara penduduk kota dengan penghuni desa dan di antara orang kuat Umno dan Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Selama 50 tahun pelbagai dasar dan projek telah dilaksanakan untuk menaikkan taraf sosio-ekonomi orang Melayu tetapi mereka tetap ketinggalan. Apakah jaminan masalah ini dapat diatasi dalam tempoh 15 tahun sebelum 2020.

“Dapatkah ia dicapai dengan cakap berdegar-degar dalam Perhimpunan Umno sahaja? Atau dengan menyalahkan orang Melayu sahaja sedangkan pemimpin tidak mengubah amalan buruk ini,” katanya dalam kenyataan media hari ini.

Dr Syed Husin berkata, pucuk pimpinan asyik memperkatakan mengenai padang permainan yang tidak rata terutama di antara kaum Melayu dan bukan Melayu khususnya orang Cina.

Katanya, memang benar ketidakseimbangan itu tetapi mengapa tidak disebut padang yang tidak rata di antara negara kapitalis yang maju dengan negara kurang maju seperti Malaysia.

Beliau berkata, juga mengapa tidak disentuh mengenai padang yang tidak rata di dalam kaum masing-masing di negara kita.

Namakan mereka

PKR menurutnya, mencabar kerajaan supaya mendedahkan nama Bumiputera yang mengalibabakan kontrak atau lesen mereka kepada kaum lain.

Katanya, PKR juga percaya sebahagian besar mereka mempunyai hubungan politik, persahabatan dan kekeluargaan rapat dengan pemimpin Umno-BN.

“Kami berharap tindakan tegas akan diambil terhadap mereka, sebagaimana yang dilaungkan oleh Timbalan Presiden Umno, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,” katanya.

Katanya, dalam Perhimpunan Umno yang tamat baru-baru ini perwakilan mendakwa bahawa orang Melayu ketinggalan dan masalah kebocoran projek masih lagi serius.

Secara tidak langsung, katanya mereka juga mengakui bahawa dasar kerajaan pimpinan Umno untuk menaikkan taraf ekonomi dan sosial orang Melayu masih belum berjaya lagi.

“Nasib majoriti rakyat biasa Melayu tidak banyak berubah atau terus ketinggalan, sebagaimana yang diakui umum,” katanya.
