Menezes family rejects $1m offer

The parents of the Brazilian man gunned down by police at London's
Stockwell Tube station have reportedly turned down a one million US dollars
compensation offer from Scotland Yard for his mistaken shooting.

Good for them. Government should not be able to buy its way out of murder
any more than you or I.

The Trillion-Dollar War

THE human cost of the more than 2,000 American military personnel killed
and 14,500 wounded so far in Iraq and Afghanistan is all too apparent. But
the financial toll is still largely hidden from public view and, like the
suffering of those who have lost loved ones, will persist long after the
fighting is over.

Hypocrites and Liars

I got an email the other day and it said, "Cindy if you didn't use so much
profanity ... there's people on the fence that get offended.
And you know what I said? "You know what? You know what, god damn it? How
in the world is anybody still sitting on that fence?

If you fall on the side that is pro-George and pro-war, you get your ass
over to Iraq, and take the place of somebody who wants to come home. And if
you fall on the side that is against this war and against George Bush,
stand up and speak out.

A mother's vigil puts shame to an inaccessible president.

In 1971, when the album Imagine came out, American soldiers were dying by
the thousands in Vietnam. The title song on the album was so captivating
that the other tunes didn't get much notice; however, one of them is surely
among the greatest by John Lennon. It should become the soundtrack to The

Russia: Putin Calls For Withdrawal Timetable For Iraq

Russian President Vladimir Putin called yesterday for a timetable for
pulling foreign troops out of Iraq. The Russian leader said many Iraqis
view the foreign troops as "occupiers" and suggested the withdrawal will
encourage insurgents to abandon violence in favor of contributing to the
creation of the state. The United States was quick to reject his call,
saying it is still too early for a pullout.

On September 26, 2005 a nation wide strike is being called for all students

To protest the influence of the Military and Weapons Industries on
Education, and the resulting wars that feed our kids as fodder to a system
of profits created from intentionally created conflict. This is now
entrenching, even in our high schools, with the "No Child Left Behind Act"
forcing school systems to share personal data on students with the armed
services.

U of O professor accused of hosting anti-Semitic website

Mr. Chossudovsky described himself as being of Jewish descent, and said he
has relatives who were Holocaust victims. "I'm the first person to withdraw
any kind of hate material directed against the Jewish people."

He went on to defend the reprinted articles that have also sparked
complaints, saying they are legitimate commentary representing views that
are "anti-Zionist, not anti-Semitic."

"It's an analysis of Israeli policy which we don't support," said Mr.
Chossudovsky, an antiwar commentator and an outspoken critic of U.S. and
Israeli policies.

Israel still pushing the myth that opposition to Israel is anti-Semitic.
