THE LIE OF THE CENTURY
I have noticed that the public has picked up on Bush's lie about not being warned about the potential for flood damage. I want everyone to take THIS story about Bush's biggest lie, the one that started the war which sucked up the levee repair money and the LA National Guard, and start sending the URL into newspaper comment sections starting today. Just flood them with this story just as New Orleans was flooded by Bush's cutting of the flood control funds. Bush has never been weaker. It is time to pound on him for ALL his lies.

Mary Shaw: When the American Dream Becomes a Nightmare :
Without a commitment by our government and all employers to the dignity and worth of all workers, and to the basic human rights that promote social progress and better standards of life for all, the American dream is at risk of going down in history as an experiment that couldn't last. And with it, democracy itself.

Claims of Saddam's Genocide Far from Proven
We know Saddam is a bad guy. We know he has killed people. But those aren't the questions. The allegations at issue are vastly more serious: that he purposefully murdered at least 50,000 (or 100,000, or 200,000, depending on the speaker's fervor) in an attempt to decimate Iraqi Kurds as a people, and that he used chemical weapons on 40 occasions during this campaign.
What hard evidence is there? One grave with 26 (or 27) bodies of people killed by bullets, not chemicals, and traces of two gasses at one location where four people died. That's it.
Only someone who wanted to be deceived would consider this adequate proof of genocide.

U.S. the new Saddam
The most important news from Iraq last week was not the much ballyhooed constitutional pact by Shias and Kurds, nor the tragic stampede deaths of nearly 1,000 pilgrims in Baghdad.

Israel has no right to the West Bank
Having waded through the tortured logic, regurgitated Israeli propaganda lines, and hateful comparisons between Palestinians and Nazis in Philip Blochs column (Aug. 21 Palestinians reaction counts), I was struck by a rather obvious omission in his, and in much of the rest of the commentary regarding Israels withdrawal from the Gaza Strip: That Israel has no more right to Gaza than the United States has to Ontario.
Indeed, Israel has been illegally occupying Gaza since 1967, a judgment shared by the United States in the form of its approval of United Nations Security Council Resolution 242, which emphasized the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war.

Rice Defends Bush's Katrina Response
"There are some things the president can do; there are some things the government can do," Smith told about 300 worshippers during a rollicking two-hour service. "But God can do all things. I want you to know he's never late. He's always on time."
That's the official White House excuse for sitting still all those days. "We're waiting for God to show up."
