Re: HI-TEA TALK TO DISPEL MISCONCEPTIONS ON ISLAM
Islam, the Misunderstood ReligionIslam is probably the most misunderstood religion in the world. But why? Is it not one of the major religions of the world with over one billion followers? Is it not also the fastest growing religion in the world today? Thanks to the influential mainstream western media and its derivatives worldwide, the present world is kept rather ignorant of even the most basic of Islam's message of universal peace and other beautiful teachings. Add to this the fact that the Muslims themselves also contribute to the general misunderstanding on Islam through non-Islamic attitudes and actions, indifference to rampant misconceptions around them, or worse, some are actually adding to the problem by questioning firmly established Islamic concepts and practices which can so easily be demonstrated to be genuinely Islamic and positive.God says in the Qur'an that He created the various races and "nations" so that they may get to know, not despise one another. The Bible states that truth will set people free. There is a dire need to explain Islam to all, especially in a multi-racial / multi-religious country like Malaysia with Islam as the "official religion". What is needed is a platform where Islam can be explained in easily digestible present day terms, followed by an open Question & Answer session where non-Muslims especially can freely ask questions about Islam. Racial and religious harmony is best served through solid grasps of facts, not mere "tolerance".Hi-Tea TalkIslamic Information & Services Foundation (IIS) is happy to announce the "Hi-Tea Talk" - first of its kind in Malaysia. Topic for the evening is the question perhaps non-Muslims would want to, but are afraid to ask : ISLAM A BACKWARD RELIGION ? The Speaker is IIS's own Brother Shah Kirit Kakulal Govindji covering subjects like Science in the Holy Qura'an and why practicing Islam is as relevant to present era of Science & Technology as it was 1400 years ago. Brother Shah is one of the leading speakers on Comparative Religion and "Islam for non-Muslims" in the country today. No doubt he will be handling red-hot questions like : does Islam "subjugate" women, why Islam allows polygamy, why Islam prohibits alcohol and pork, does Islam preach violence, is Islam undemocratic - in short, is Islam a backward religion? It is a FUND-RAISING event to help IIS funds its da'wah and social activities.Everyone, both Muslims and non-Muslims, will benefit from the Talk, which in the end will benefit the Society as a whole. Problem is : from past experience, it is extremely difficult to get non-Muslims to attend events organized by Muslims. Among possible reasons is the fear of being 'targeted' for a brain-washing session or propaganda on Islam and of being 'overwhelmed' at the event. To expect them to buy tickets for the Fund-raising effort would be even less realistic. While we are addressing the first problem through high 'non-Muslims to Muslims' attendance ratio of 4:1, we do need assistance to overcome the second problem. This is where SPONSORS come in.Sponsoring of TicketsThe concept of TICKET SPONSORING is simply: Muslims buy tables/tickets for non-Muslims to attend. For example, an individual Sponsor can buy 5 tickets, one for himself and four for his non-Muslim friends/neighbours/officemates. Corporate entities can sponsor a whole table of ten for 2 Muslim and 8 non-Muslim staff. If the Sponsor is not able to find enough non-Muslim for the 4:1 target ratio, the balance of the paid-for tickets can be entrusted back to IIS as "sponsored tickets" for which IIS will make available to non-Muslim callers interested in attending. As a last resort, the 4:1 target ratio can be lowered down to say 1:1 with an individual Sponsor buying 2 tickets for himself/herself and a non-Muslim friend.Ticket Prices per table of 10 : RM1,000 ; RM3,000 ; RM5,000 ; RM10,000
(Individual tickets for the RM1,000 table are also available at RM100 each)
Names of Sponsors will be listed in the Program Booklet unless specifically requested otherwise.
Proceeds from ticket selling will go to IIS Foundation to fund its da'wah and social activities. Please make check payable to "ISLAMIC INFORMATION & SERVICES FOUNDATION" and mail to above address. You may also send telegraphic transfer to Acc No. 562188108526 Maybank Tmn Setiawangsa, KL, branch. Please also send your full details for receipt purposes.Sponsoring of Lucky Draw PrizesTo further encourage attendance, attractive lucky draw prizes are to be given away.
