"Whoever thinks deeply of things, even though he may carefully
consider the future, will usually think around the basis of his own
welfare. By the result of such evil thinking he will only perform
evil acts. It is very difficult for most silly fellows to rise above
thinking of their own welfare"
"So when you embark upon something, before you start fix your
intentions on the four oaths and put selfishness behind you. Then
you cannot fail".

The four oaths:-
1. Never be late with respect to the way of the warrior
(Bushido- the way of the warrior is death. This means choosing death
whenever there is a choice between life and death)
2. Be useful to the lord
3. Be respectful to your parents
4. Get beyond love and grief (This means being very rational
and putting emotional factors behind)

Exist for the good of man

These are the words of Yamamoto Tsunenori and a few other samurai of
the province Nabeshima Han in the seventeenth century.

Looking at this, it is no wonder the samurai had such high virtue

However, if we study, observe and ponder upon Islam. We would see a
somewhat similar qualities promoted.

1) To be beneficial to others and putting selfishness behind

Rasullullah bersabda maksudnya:
ataupun mengusir rasa kelaparan daripadanya. Sesungguhnya, aku
-Riwayat Imam Al-Tabarani dari Umar Ibn Al-Khattab r.a.-

2) Having no fear of death (the Hereafter is our focus)

sedikit"
(surah At-Taubah ayat 38)

3) Respectful to parents

"A man came to the prophet (peace be upon him) and said, "I have
come to swear allegiance to you for hijrah, and I have left my
parents weeping." The prophet (peace be upon him) said to
him, "return to them and make them laugh as you made them weep"
-Riwayat Al-Bukhari-

4) Get beyond love and grief (keep rational)

membanggakan diri"

(surah Al-Hadid ayat 22-23)
