Tunisian Scholars Decry Anti-Hijab Remarks

TUNIS, January 4, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) Tunisian scholars have reacted in anger to remarks by the religious affairs minister and a university professor criticizing hijab and one of Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) companions.

Minister Aboubaker Akhzouri said last week that hijab does not fit with the North African country's cultural heritage. "Akhzour's remarks were politically motivated and had nothing to do with the Islamic teachings," Sheikh Mohamed Mokhtar Al-Salami, former Tunisian mufti, told IslamOnline.net Wednesday, January 4, over the phone.

Here are some issues about the September 11th attacks to consider:
  • World Trade Center Towers
  • Jet fuel does not burn hot enough to melt steel.
  • Footage shows explosives were placed in both towers before the attack to cause the towers to disintegrate into dust.
  • The towers fell exactly into their footprint, taking the path of most resistance in about 10 seconds, the same amount of time it takes an object to fall that distance in a vacuum.
  • The towers tossed massive steel beams 200 feet in each direction, too far to be explained by a gravity collapse.
  • Survivors and firefighters report explosions at the BASE of the WTC towers at the same time as the planes hit it - how did Osama do this?
  • Pools of molten metal were found 7 stories under the towers 6 weeks after the attack. It takes 5000+ degrees Fahrenheit to turn steel into liquid. Where did this energy come from?
  • The top of the south tower began to collapse sideways, then righted itself, falling into it's footprint. This is impossible with only gravity working to collapse the tower.

Israel planning to give Galilee land to US rabidly extremist Christian fundaMENTAList radicals

Plans for Holy Land theme park on Galilee shore where Jesus fed the 5,000

The Israeli government is planning to give up a large slice of land to American Christian evangelicals to build a biblical theme park by the Sea of Galilee where Jesus is said to have walked on water and fed 5,000 with five loaves and two fish. A consortium of Christian groups, led by the television evangelist Pat Robertson, is in negotiation with the Israeli ministry of tourism and a deal is expected in the coming months. The project is expected to bring up to 1 million extra tourists a year but an undeclared benefit will be the cementing of a political alliance between the Israeli rightwing and the American Christian right.

Why would NSA begin warrantless domestic spying BEFORE 9/11?

Our much esteemed president has barraged the airwaves with claims that the horror of 9/11 made his domestic warrantless spying program absolutely essential.
Ignoring for the moment the fact that its "essentialness" says absolutely nothing about why the government doesn't want to be bothered getting a warrant, how would he explain the fact that the NSA commenced a domestic spying program (spying on its own employees and their contacts among the journalism and congressional worlds?

The Decline of the American Empire

The dilemma the US has had for a half-century is that the priorities it must impose on its budget and its imperial plans have never guided its actual behavior and action. It has always believed, as well it should, that Europe and its control would determine the future of world power. But it has fought in Korea, Vietnam, and now Iraq – the so-called "Third World" in general – where the stakes of power were much smaller.

Why Our Military Despises Donald Rumsfeld

Civilian control over the military is a long established democratic tradition in our country. It was the military that was believed by our founding fathers to be  susceptible to plunging our country into foreign adventure. Presently, however, the boondoggles, crimes and recklessness of draft-dodging George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and former Air Force pilot, Donald Rumsfeld, together with their draft-dodging neo-con associates, have turned this expectation upside down. The
civilians are the war-mongers.

In case you misseed it: Draft Iraq Indictment

The 2003 U.S. invasion and its ongoing occupation of Iraq are illegal, immoral and unjust, aimed at furthering U.S. imperialist aims in the Middle East and the world, not liberating the Iraqi people, but rather subjecting them to new, more brutal and direct forms of foreign domination and turning Iraq into a platform for further aggression and imperial maneuvers.

Elections in 2005, Civil War in 2006?

When Paul Bremer signed into law his dictate that banned the Ba'ath Party, he forgot the age-old notion that the enemy has a vote. In this case the enemy was the two-million plus members of the Ba'ath party who were suddenly disenfranchised from any legitimate role in determining the future of Iraq.

28,000 US Troops Evacuated to Germany

The Total number of US troops injured, announced by the DOD, is kind of fishy. It seems like the DOD is trying to hide the real numbers or something.

let's see..

The total number of US soldiers wounded in Iraq, according to DOD, is less than 16000, and there some other 658 troops from Afghanistan. Yet, the counter on Global Security indicates that 20,748 US soldiers were evacuated from Iraq. 2,913 of them were wounded in Action, 5,876 with "non-battle injuries", and another 11,959 because of "diseases". (What kind of non-battle injuries and diseases can evacuate more than 17,000!!!)

Abramoff used stolen Native American cash to fund Israel settlers

Fund-Raising: Take It to the (West) Bank. Money meant for the inner city went to fight the intifada. What donors to Jack Abramoff's charity didn't know.

May 2 issue - The pitch from superlobbyist Jack Abramoff was hard to resist: a good way to get access on Capitol  Hill, he told his clients a few years ago, was to contribute to a worthy charity he and his wife had just started up. The charity, called the Capital Athletic Foundation, was supposed to provide sports programs and teach "leadership skills" to city youth. Donating to it also had a side benefit, Abramoff told his clients: it was a favored cause of Rep. Tom DeLay.

Blair's Cynical Policy on Palestine

The British Government likes to portray itself as an honest broker' in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, seeing "blame on both sides". Perhaps because such a position finds no basis in international law, the Government dislikes international institutions getting too involved -- as seen when it tried to prevent the International Court of Justice ruling on the illegality of the Separation Wall 18 months ago.

‘Extraordinary Rendition’ - Short Cuts

The official euphemism for it sounds like the title of a Tom Clancy thriller, or a straight-to-video 1980s action movie starring Chuck Norris. The practice itself sounds like something that might go on, or be rumoured to go on, through the course of a novel by Don DeLillo. But there is no doubt that it does happen, despite the cagey denials and qualifications of the British and American governments. Condoleezza Rice has described extraordinary rendition as a ‘lawful weapon’ which has nothing to do with torture. Tony Blair has suggested it must be OK if only because it’s been going on for years, and a spokesman for the prime minister has blithely announced that ‘we do not believe that we are involved in this story.’

Looks Like Bush Knew Wiretaps Were Wrong

President's defense of spying yesterday doesn't square with past

WASHINGTON, D.C.--While President Bush denies any wrongdoing in the National Security Agency domestic wiretap and data-mining program, saying yesterday that it was perfectly legal, actions by top officials in his own administration suggest Bush and his inner circle of confidants did indeed know the spying was wrong.
