Hate behind right-wing blogburst

It's a "simultaneous, co-ordinated posting by a large group of webmasters and bloggers on a given topic," says Israpundit who, along with Michelle Malkin, who is like Ann Coulter but not as funny and not so skinny, are leading the cartoon crusade.

Follow their politics and you'll understand why they're on this particular blogwagon: they hate Muslims. In fact, if they were to write about Jews the way they sometimes do about followers of the Prophet Muhammad, they'd be denounced as anti-Semites or Holocaust deniers.

So it isn't surprising that some of their more eager acolytes have gone far beyond denigrating the fanatical rioting, which has, at deadline, claimed six lives and left hundreds of wounded.

Muslims say Western media hypocritical on cartoons

DUBAI, Feb 8, 2006 (Reuters) - Muslims have decried as hypocrites Western dailies which have cited free speech as the reason for printing disrespectful cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad, saying the same newspapers take pains to avoid lampooning Jews.

The caricatures, first published in a Danish daily in September and then reprinted across Europe, have unleashed fury among Muslims who view any portrayal of their Prophet as blasphemous, let alone one showing him as a terrorist.

"Free speech double standards"

In the name of "freedom of _expression_," Western leaders and scholars are strongly endorsing any collection of abusive language and diabolically crafted fiction if it heaps curses on Islam and everything related to it. In this regard "Freedom of interpretation" is the title given  to the collection of seven lectures by leading literary figures of international reputation, invited to lecture at Oxford University on subjects related to human rights. "Freedom of Interpretation" was actually title of Frank Kermode's lecture in particular.

Flemming Rose and the Straussian Art of Provocation

As suspected, and claimed on this blog over the weekend, the inflammatory anti-Muslim cartoons published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten were a deliberate provocation designed to outrage and incite Muslims and thus engender support in Europe and America for the manufactured “clash of civilizations” engineered by the Straussian neocons. As Christopher Bollyn writes for the American Free Press, the neocon operative behind the cartoon scheme is Flemming Rose, cultural editor of Jyllands-Posten, who has “has clear ties to the Zionist Neo-Cons.” Rose “traveled to Philadelphia in October 2004 to visit Daniel Pipes, the Neo-Con ideologue who says the only path to Middle East peace will come through a total Israeli military victory. Rose then penned a positive article about Pipes, who compares ‘militant Islam’ with fascism and communism,” Bollyn reveals.

A 'dangerous moment' for Europe and Islam

LONDON As Islamic protests grew against the publication in Europe of cartoons lampooning the Prophet Muhammad, a small Arab movement active in Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark responded with a drawing on its Web site of Hitler in bed with Anne Frank. "Write this one in your diary, Anne," Hitler was shown as saying.

Europe: bent on fighting back

There has been a lot of tut-tutting about the way Europe has embroiled itself in a clash of civilizations with the Islamic world. How rash of that Danish newspaper to publish cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed. How silly of other European papers to republish them.

Halifax professor plans to display drawings of prophet in classroom

HALIFAX (CP) - An outspoken professor who was forced to remove incendiary cartoons of the prophet Muhammad from his office door now plans to display them in his classroom to prove a point about freedom of speech.

Peter March, who teaches at St. Mary's University in Halifax, says he should be allowed to display the images for his students. "I probably will take them into the classroom tomorrow morning," he said in an interview Wednesday.

P.E.I. student paper publishes 'Prophet' cartoons

Some Atlantic Canadians are raising eyebrows with their use of controversial cartoons that depict the Prophet Muhammad. The cartoons have sparked ongoing clashes around the Muslim world that have claimed the lives of at least four and wounded scores more.

At the University of Prince Edward Island, a student newspaper became one of the first Canadian papers to reprint the incendiary editorial cartoons when it published them in its Wednesday edition.

The Fall and Rise and Fall of Liberty

The myth that modern kings, and democracies, and armies of freedom secure the blessings of liberty for all has been an obstacle to real liberty for centuries. The real history of the State is one of power, war, and domination. Real freedom has advanced in great salvos against the State from political revolutions and from industrial and technological ones.

The terror of President Bush

How one word granted one man so much power and control

The outright evil of one man is not nearly as surprising (nor frightening) as the collective evil of the people who go along with him. Dumbfounded Conservatives all across the country blindly stroll into history along the same well-trodden path followed by Hitler's fascist supporters. It's a well-worn path: First you create an imaginary enemy to justify war. Then you strip away the civil liberties of your own citizens and launch domestic spying programs to keep everyone in a constant state of fear.

9/11 Tortured at Gitmo: "OK, I knew him; whatever you want."
  • A high percentage, perhaps the majority, of the 500-odd men now held at Guantanamo were not captured on any battlefield, let alone on "the battlefield in Afghanistan" (as Bush asserted) while "trying to kill American forces" (as McClellan claimed).
  • Fewer than 20 percent of the Guantanamo detainees, the best available evidence suggests, have ever been Qaeda members.
  • Many scores, and perhaps hundreds, of the detainees were not even Taliban foot soldiers, let alone Qaeda terrorists. They were innocent, wrongly seized noncombatants with no intention of joining the Qaeda campaign to murder Americans.
  • The majority were not captured by U.S. forces but rather handed over by reward-seeking Pakistanis and Afghan warlords and by villagers of highly doubtful reliability.

9/11: World's first Sept 11 convict released in Germany

Motassadeq was first found guilty in February 2003 and jailed for the maximum 15 years on more than 3,000 counts of accessory to murder and membership in a terrorist organization in the world's first conviction in connection with September 11. But a retrial was ordered when a federal court in 2004 quashed the verdict on the grounds that US authorities had refused to allow the court to question top suspects from Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network in American custody. During the new trial, the court found there was no evidence to show that Motassadeq had been directly involved in the attacks in New York and Washington.

Encyclopedia of Terrorism in the Americas

About the Encyclopedia of Terrorism

Welcome to the Encyclopedia of Terrorism in the Americas containing the essentials on the multifaceted and reactionary violence promoted, supported and carried out by both the U.S. government and its servants in Latin America. With this online publication, we are fulfilling the agreements reached at the International Conference in Defense of Humanity held in Caracas, the capital of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, on December 2-4, 2004 and the International Conference against Terrorism, for Truth and Justice held in Havana, Cuba, on June 2-4, 2005. At both meetings, the delegates claimed that there should be a way to spread the truth about such crimes.

Can the U.S. legally implement the application of its laws extraterritorially?

When the 20-storey four-star Maria Isabel Sheraton Hotel in Mexico summarily expelled a Cuban Minister of Basic Industry and the Cuban official trade delegation, of some 16 persons, that was without question a violation of Mexican law.  The owners Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. of White Plains, New York were just following U.S. government orders in implementing the Helms-Burton Act, that prohibits U.S.-owned firms from doing business with Castro's Cuba.  But it was the U.S. Treasury Department that ordered the U.S.-resort-owner to act against the Cuban delegation in Mexico.  Now the question arises, how can the U.S. government or any of its agencies implement U.S. laws in Mexico or for that matter in any sovereign country?   Perhaps, it is time that the U.S. government is reminded that U.S. law in no way or form applies outside  U.S. territory.
