Muslim Aid Rushes Relief to Famine-Stricken Somalia & Kenyaa

A severe drought has gripped The Horn of Africa, putting two million people in Somalia alone in need of humanitarian assistance.

The United Nations estimates that in all more than 11 million people in parts of Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Tanzania and Burundi need food aid for the next six months. Muslim Aid has come to the assistance of those suffering by providing GBP74,485 worth of humanitarian relief.

Our Somalia field-office will distribute GBP37,500 worth of rice, flour, sugar, oil, tea, beans, biscuits, water, shelter and drugs to 7,500 people in southern Somalia. Many of the people affected have abandoned their homes in search of food and water, and Muslim Aid will set up temporary shelters to provide accommodation to these homeless families.

Muslim Aid has allocated just under GBP37,000 to our partner organisations in Kenya, for the distribution of water, food, and cooking oil to people in Isiolo, Wajir and Mandera in eastern Kenya.

The greatest problem is the lack of water, so Muslim Aid will be trucking water to the affected areas.

With your generous help, we can avert a disaster in the Horn of Africa.
