WE believe Scomi Group Bhd's 71.5% subsidiary Scomi Engineering Bhd can capitalise on the government's initiative to channel the RM4.4bil from fuel saving into improving the public transportation system. In fact, it has bid for a project involving the fabrication of body parts for 400 buses from Syarikat Prasarana and the outcome of the bid will be known by March 2006. The potential contract value is RM120mil if we assume an average fabrication cost of RM300,000 per bus. The pre-tax profit margin is expected to be around the 7% to 8% range.

Scomi to bid for bus fabrication job

SCOMI Group Bhd will submit a bid by the end of March for a contract worth some RM120 million to make body parts for about 400 buses for state-owned Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd, sources said.
Scomi is also pitching for another job from a big GLC (government-linked company) to manage its fleet of 6,000 vehicles.
