RELEASE: MAB URGES EU TO END IMMORAL SANCTIONS AGAINST PALESTINIAN
PEOPLE
Amid reports of a
worsening humanitarian crisis in the Occupied Palestinian Territories the Muslim Association
of Britain (MAB) calls on the European Union (EU) to honour its
international obligations and restore aid to the Palestinian
people.
There is
absolutely no justification for the withdrawal of aid to the Palestinian
people at a time when they are subjected to one of the most oppressive
military occupations of modern times, said President Ahmad
Sheikh.
After years of
pressuring the Palestinians to adopt democratic methods and reform, it is
really mind-boggling that the EU should now punish them for exercising
their choice.
The continued
denial of aid to the Palestinians is grossly inhuman, immoral and unjust,
Sheikh added.
Instead of imposing
ill-conceived sanctions and inflicting other forms of collective
punishment the MAB urges the EU to open immediate negotiations with the
elected government of the Palestinian people. The current campaign to
subvert the Palestinian government would only destabilize the region more
and increase human suffering,.
