Semakin menjadi-jadi pengiklanan bolasepak piala dunia
oleh semua pihak di Malaysia sekarang ini yang
menggunakan bendera England iaitu lambang salib merah.
Bendera salib merah ini ialah bendera St George yang
dipakai oleh tentera Inggeris semasa menewaskan
tentera Islam di Palestin semasa perang salib. Begitu
tidak sensitifnya umat Islam di Malaysia. Sedangkan di
England sendiri kerajaan di sana begitu berhati-hati
menggunakan bendera England untuk tidak menyinggung
perasaan orang Islam di sana. Laporan 6 Mei 2006
menyatakan kerajaan telah melarang balai bomba di kota
London mengibarkan bendera England untuk tidak
menyinggung perasaan umat Islam minoriti di sana.
Tapi kita di Malaysia , Melayunya lebih England
daripada orang England sendiri. Pengacara sukan
Hasbullah Awang dalam iklan televisyen Maxis begitu
riang sekali berlatarbelakangkan bendera England.

Just this week, government officials in England banned
a London fire station from flying the Cross of St.
George flag during the World Cup. The Cross of St.
George is a white flag with a red cross and is
considered by many Englanders to be the flag of
England. The reason given the firemen was that the
government is afraid of offending ethnic minorities.
Of course, the term “ethnic minorities” is how
Europeans typically refer to their Muslim populations
