Assalamu Alaikum Dear brethren in Faith! Do we need this Indian Muslim Heritage centre today? Please refer to ST article on 4/12/2006 (H2) on restoring Nagore Durgha, a National monument in Telok Ayer Street.The article states "Yesterday, President S R Nathan attended a charity dinner to raise funds to turn it into an Indian Muslim heritage centre." The article also states " the structure was built by Indian Muslims in memory of Shahul Hamid, a holy man from Nagore, South India." Nagore Durgha was actually built to commemorate a visit to the island by a As-Sheikh Shahul Hameed(r.a) who was traveling around Southeast Asia <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southeast_Asia> spreading Islam.He spent his lifetime calling people to worship the one God, Allah. Muslims are wasting their money on cement and bricks instead of helping the poor and needy. As Sheikh Shahul Hameed(r.a) during his lifetime always helped the poor and needy regardless of their religion. As-Sheikh, Sayyiduna Shahul Hameed(r.a), is not even buried there. Why do we need a building? Why do Muslims need to collect money and build this building? Is it a mosque? It is not a mosque! So what if As-Sheikh, Sayyiduna Shahul Hameed(r.a) made his visit there? Did he command the local Muslims to build any building for him? If the love for this Waliyullah is the reason why they are reconstructing this monument, they should think twice. This wali was their heir pf Prophet and condmned all kinds of extravagancy. Over the past 50 years in Singapore, Indian Muslim gathered there and made many un-Islamic practices. They quarreled in that place for food which is distributed after the Mawlid celebrations for this waliyullah. Many women gathered without observing Hijab and turned this place into marketplace. Many practices of Hindu rituals were practiced by the Muslims who attended the gatherings. Few years back, a man named Nagore Alahudeen, made that place in to a shop. Selling ciggrates and drinks. He hanged his pictures on the wall saying he is the heir of As-Sheikh, Sayyiduna Shahul Hameed(r.a). When MUIS claimed back the place for renovation few years back, do you know where did this man go? He started to sell lottery ticket at Lavender MRT. He cheated many people and mad a lot of chaotic things in that place. Muslims must get up! We should not let this knds of thing happen again. Nagore Durgah is not mosque. It is just a memorial place. We do need to waste our money to build such a monument when the sheikh is not even buried there. The committees in charge is spending millions of dollars to build this building. Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, please think again. Isn't this extravagancy? What are the Muslims leaders doing? They can do anything and they want everyone to keep quiet for their silly acts like this? Allah will not reward at all for this extravagant act. "Â…and do not squander wastefully.Verily spendthrifts are brothers of the Evil Ones(Shaitaan); and the Evil One is to his Lord (himself) ungrateful."(17:26-27) If it is the national monument, let government take charge of the rebuilding. What does this building got to do with Islam and Muslims? Muslims today in many parts of the world are homeless and in permanent poverty. They are living tents and refugee camps,but our brothers here are building this monument to keep the Heritage of Indian Muslims! Sheikh Nagoori converted many Hindus into Muslims in India. Today's Muslims present in South India are especially descendants of those who converted thru AS sheikh Shahul Hamed(r.a). He did a great service t o Islam. He did his part for Islam. But what are we doing? Is this how we show our gratitude to him? Why are we not following his footsteps in doing DAWAH like him? He helped the poor and needy people regardless of religion. What are the people who are involved in this project are doing? Why can't they use the millions of dollars which they are using for this building, to help the poor and needy? Muslims are suffering in Indonesia, Palestine and Lebanon, why they can't make effort to send the money to them? What is this? When are Muslims going to get up? Even in Singapore, many Muslims are jobless and poor. Why can't the money be used to help them? Muslims are backward in education. Why can't this money used to set up free tuition for them? Oh Muslims! Enough! Get up! We must be aware of what is happening to our Muslim brothers and sisters in the world and try to help them in whichever ways we can afford. We should stop making extravagancy in our lives. Today every Muslims in Palestine are suffering. We must think of them, we should supplicate for them and help them economically.
