Abu Musa Al Ash’ari Radiyallahu ‘anhu narrates
that Nabi Sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said:
Every Muslim is enjoined to give Sadaqah.
He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was asked:
If one has nothing?
He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied:
Then he should labour with his own hands
to benefit himself and give Sadaqah (as well):
The Sahabah (radhiallaho anhum ajmaeen) asked:
If he cannot or does not work?
He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:
Then he should help the needy and the distressed person.
The Sahabah (radhiallaho anhum ajmaeen) asked further:
If he does not do it?
He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:
Then he should enjoin others what is good.
It was said:
If he does not do it?
He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:
Then he should refrain from harming someone;
this is (also) Sadaqah for him.
