I should have added "server-side, non-Windows" to my requirements, sorry ;-)

Charles and Firebug are indeed extremely useful except when trying to
measure in a locked-down deployment scenario where only console and remote X
sessions are available.

(One problem with Charles, Solex and similar tools is the requirement to run
a local proxy: most locked-down desktops don't allow users to open ports.)

I've not found a way to do WebDAV with jmeter; it's extremely configurable
but needs a webdav plugin written for it (currently only basic HTTP is
possible).

YSlow looks cool, I'll give it a try.
