Yes, that's what someone here mentioned too. As I understand it there's an imageset documenttype that contains pointers to images in several formats. It should be easy to adapt that to contain metadata as well, and it should be possible to create a PDFcontainer document that contains metadata and a pointer to the pdf. All search and DASL operations should then work on the container doc.
