In theory, edit your custom component.xml and change the submenu
defaultView attribute in view:
<view
id="submenu"
label="SubMenu"
className="SubMenuView"
appUrl="/dashboard/submenu"
bootParam=""
defaultView="welcome"
style="submenuview"/>
In practice, this didn't work for me. Hippos?
