Personally I still think of ubuntu as a desktop distribution, but they do make server releases as well. I just haven't seen one running in production...
I do agree that the init scripts for some distributions are still missing (debian, ubuntu, etc..), but that should be fairly easy to create from the existing ones.
If you have created init scripts for ubuntu, I would be glad to add them to the wiki along the others :)
