Yes this is definitely a run only once plugin, and yes it is an uncommon
problem.  Anyone trying to replicate metadata content back into
documents better think carefully about why they are duplicating their
data!  Unless you have been silly like me and used a webdav property
when you shouldn't, you probably dont need this plugin.
