Like Bart said: that page is written from a rather technical point of view. Most of the time you actually just need the "permissions" or "users" tab in the cms. Just using cms, you can easily deny users to see a button (e.g. permissions tab) or a folder or hand them publishing or author rights. I'll give you a few basic rules which work best (of course you can be creative here): First: make users a member of a group. You can add groups and users in the users tab. Basic setup: A user (except root etc) is a member of at least 2 groups the general groep: users (which denies rights) 1, 2, of more specific groups (which grants rights) Next: you want to give certain permissions to the groups, so when a user is a member of the "cooking group", it will get "cooking group" permissions. Permissions can be set in the permissions tab. You can set permissions on a folder based level. The rights will apply to all subfolders. Basic setup: Deny permissions of the group "users" on a folder (deny read) eg. on the folder "cooking" Subsequently, grant specific groups the previously denied persmissions. E.g grant the "cooking group" editor- permissions on the "cooking" folder. - "editor" permissions will give a certain set of permissions like editing/publishing/deleting - "author' permissions will only apply to "edting/requesting things". Don't change the permissions for the following users and groups: root siteuser systemuser authenticated Hope this will help you further. By the way: we also have courses that will teach you more about all this. Kind regards, Mathijs Brand Hippo [EMAIL PROTECTED] Amsterdam - Hippo B.V.
