No. It's just historical, there was never a need to also implement https.
IMO protocol should be configurable also.
It would be nice ;) I added the option for the source location in April
with "location.protocol". So probably the best thing to do is to add:
plugin.1.configuration.destination.location.protocol.
Should be a quite trivial fix. See the source patch in:
