An, you may have a bad batch of thionin stain. Did you just open a new jar? Here is the USA we use stains certified for use in histology by the Biological Stain Commission. Each lot has been tested by them for use in histology. Maybe you could borrow some thionin from another lab and see if that works better for you? Sometimes in my career I have come across bad jars of stain that just did not work.
