Quenching is also a term used with depressing fluorescence activity. This can happen in quantitative realtime-PCR procedures. Here a quencher is situated close to a fluorochrom and therefore the activity is low. During incorporation of the nucleotides the quencher is released and the fluorochrom-activity is restored.
