Rae,
My lab was set up new in 2012 with negative pressure air flow with 100% make up air through the HVAC system. The contractors used current Laboratory ventilation protocols as I understand it and it included negative pressure throughout the lab. The purpose is to prevent the fumes from Formalin and other chemical in the lab from seeping out from under the doors and through wall cracks or windows to other populated areas exposing others to known carcinogens and fowl smelling fumes such as xylene and alcohol. I still have to work under a hood to protect my self from formalin exposure per OSHA protocols. Hope this helped. Is the wash out period still necessary if it?s not considered and LDT? Does the personnel still have to be qualified as high complexity testing personnel to scan the slides? Any help or other information is greatly appreciated!
