Zheng Shao commented on HIVE-352:
---------------------------------
hive-352-2009-4-30-2.patch
1. It seems you compiled against hadoop 0.19? Can you do that with hadoop 0.17?
Otherwise it won't compile at my workspace.
2. I think vint is actually pretty good for saving space. I would prefer to
have vint for key length instead of int, but if you can do an experiment to
show that vint and int has similar size after compression, then I am also OK
with int.

> column based storage has been proven a better storage layout for OLAP.
> Hive does a great job on raw row oriented storage. In this issue, we will
> enhance hive to support column based storage.
> Acctually we have done some work on column based storage on top of hdfs, i
> think it will need some review and refactoring to port it to Hive.
> Any thoughts?
