@Raghu: Thanks for your comment on the mailing list re the current thrift
version of r790732. I was able to build that version using the THRIFT-214
patch. Then I could also run 'ant thriftif' without the slf4j dependency or the
{{libthrift.jar}} conflict.
Attached is a HIVE-795.2.patch, which uses a modified
{{service/if/hive_service.thrift}} and {{cd service && ant thriftif}} to
generate {{HiveServerException.java}}, as well as other php and py thrift
source.
