I am using MySQL as the meta-store server and can access that directly.
I can also get the Hive CLI to work without problems. I don't there is any
problem with the meta-data store.
Which log file should I look at?

Most probably metastore died. What were you doing when this happened and

I am getting the following error when I try to use Hive JDBC

com.facebook.thrift.transport.TTransportException: Cannot read. Remote
side has closed. Tried to read 872415232 bytes, but only got 52 bytes.
