At a recent Hive user meeting, someone in the audience pointed out that HBase can now be used as a JDO datastore, so if you are incredibly brave, it's in theory possible at this point to get set up with Hive->metastore->JDO->HBase i.e. completely Hadoop-hosted for both data and metadata. If anyone tries it, let us know how it goes. JVS
