Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: HIVEMIND-37
    Summary: Polling methods on BeanFactory
       Type: Improvement

     Status: Open
   Priority: Major

    Project: HiveMind
 Components:
             framework
   Versions:
             1.0

   Assignee: Howard M. Lewis Ship
   Reporter: Naresh Sikha

    Created: Wed, 4 Aug 2004 6:58 PM
    Updated: Wed, 4 Aug 2004 6:59 PM
Environment: Windows XP, Eclipse 3.0, J2SDK1.3.1_12

Description:
It is compelling to be able to interoperate with other service systems. In this
regard polling Hivemind for the existence of a Service becomes a reaonable use
case and is more performant than catching an exception.

Attached you will find a patch that adds a "contains" method to Registry, the
appropriate implementation and unit tests.

Cheers,

Naresh
