Sure, I have an opinion. I think the Eclipse-type
all-possible-relationships is overkill. However, I don't like Howard's
two relationships as the set HiveMind supports either. I'd like to see your "compatible" as the default meaning: the major number must match and whatever part of the rest of the number is given is the minimum version within that major version. Maybe we should also support an exact match, perhaps by prefixing the version number with "=". The whole world seems to be moving toward a common definition of software version numbers, with a change to the major number meaning that backward compatibility is not preserved, and the lesser numbers meaning that it is. Let's do our part to fit in with that model, and help spread it. Luke Knut Wannheden wrote: Does anybody else have an opinion on this? The former would be "perfect", the later would be "greaterequal". You may have noticed that in general I prefer more complex solutions but in this case, my gut feeling is that "less is more". Need to come up with percise, codable defintiions of all those match types. |
