Editor: A fellow Muslim sister recently brought to my attention a
message
posted on the Internet from one of our own, Brent
Weidenhamer, an
environmental engineering sophomore.
The message is as follows:
"The capital of Israel is Jerusalem ... considering that the government
of Israel is out of Jerusalem so where is the argument in that. As for
it being a Muslim city, well if you believe that, I will consider you a
moron and don't want to hear from you. The Jewish people built the
city
of Jerusalem, hence, it belongs to them. After all any other city
belongs to
its founders unless it has been taken over during a war,
which has happened
to Jerusalem many times. But, currently it
belongs to the Jews for a while.
What Disney has done is not unfair or prejudiced. After all we don't
see
the British claiming that Boston belongs to them do we?"
First of all Brent, Muslims aren't saying it's a Muslim city. You were
so
eager to imply that Muslims are morons, that you totally missed
the point. I
seriously doubt you have any historical background on the
area, and you
should be ashamed of yourself. Instead of making
ignorant remarks, you
should open a book.
Or come ask us the Muslims at the Reitz Union Colonnade. We'll be
glad to
fill you in on exactly why something like that is offensive to
us.
Don't try to act all smart and upset about something you apparently
know
nothing about.
I'm Palestinian by blood, but my family was thrown out of Palestine
years
ago. I was born in Jordan, and I'm a citizen of that country. I'm
never
allowed to enter my homeland. Now they want to erase all
traces of any
Muslim presence in it.
I and all Palestinians and Muslims have every right to be upset.
