PULAU PINANG, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- Pulau Pinang
Gerakan Youth vice-chief Tan Tee Beng said he will resign from the party
on Monday, and will bring along with him some party members.
He will submit his resignation letter to party president Datuk
Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik and state Gerakan chairman Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.
Tan said he would also resign as a councillor of the Pulau Pinang
Municipal Council.
A meeting would be held tonight to discuss
various matters, including the list of members who would resign from the
party, he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Tan, 27, a son of
former state Gerakan chairman Datuk Tan Gim Hwa, contested the Batu
Lanchang state seat in the just-concluded general election but lost
narrowly to DAP's Law Heng Kiang.
Tan, a remisier who holds a law
degree, said he was leaving not because he had lost to the DAP candidate.
However, Tan expressed disappointment with the state party
leadership for allegedly failing to help in his election campaign.
Yesterday, Tan was among a group of party members who pledged
support for the action of Datuk Keramat state assemblyman Lim Boo Chang
and Bayan Lepas state assemblyman Lim Chien Aun in quitting the party.
