Appoint bumi as KK Mayor: PAS
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PAS deputy chief Hamzah Abdullah said the racial and political consideration should not be the criteria for the selection of Kota Kinabalu's mayor.
He said the party had made it clear that the potential candidate should be the most senior civil servant, considering that the post of Mayor comes under the Civil Service Commission.
In a statement here Sunday, he believed that there were several Bumiputera senior civil servants having served the State for decades with good track records, and therefore it would be befitting for a Bumiputera to be appointed Mayor of KK City come Feb 2, 2000.
Hamzah also said that the party objected to the proposed 24-hour non-stop band performance to mark the official launching of Kota Kinabalu's city status, as they could be other forms of activities without having "to spoil the moral values of our younger generation".
