PRAGMATISM A EUPNEMISM FOR KUFR
Since the advent of Islam, Muslims have seen a number of obstacles placed before them in their worship of
Allah (swt), in all their spheres of life. Be that in Economic, Political, Social, or Judicial. In an attempt to deal
with such problems, solutions taking form in the notion of pragmatism have been tooted, and pragmatism has
taken firm foothold amongst many Muslims. The idea of pragmatism is that in circumstances where obeying
the law of Allah (swt) affects our perceived interests (in whatever sphere of life) then those interests as a
priority, should be served and the adherence to Islamic law in such a view is thereby by relegated to those
idealists. In the case of prayer (salat) many take the view that these can be missed whilst at work.
They equate praying with the loss of their job. The stipulation
that a mortgage has to be taken to buy a
house; that interest has to be given (as well as being taken).
Indulging in the national lottery also as it is an
excusable haram! At the political level local Muslim Councillors
rally support for British political parties
advocating that in return for votes these parties will serve
the interests of Muslims! The reality is that local
councillors have no influence in setting local governmental expenditure.
The pragmatic approach extends to
the international level our tyrant leaders watch Muslims but
slaughtered across the Globe.
The latest massacre taking place in Grozny Chechnya, which started
months earlier, was carried out on the
Russian bigots who were hoping that they would quickly take Grozny
from the Mujahideen. This was done
as parliamentary elections near the end of December 1999, which
would have placed certain leading
Moscow politicians in favourable light in front of their voters.
As it happens Allah (swt) is helping the
Mujahideen inflict serious casualties to the Russian army. The
illegitimate Muslim rulers argue is that the war
in Grozny Chechnya is an internal matter and is to be dealt with
Russia alone. One day it is international law
they must obey, the next it is western political hemisphere they
don�t want to upset.
This pragmatic approach has done and will further continue to
seal our Umma into decline and despair. If we
look to our beloved prophet (saw) his Sahabah we find they followed
Islam and the Ahkam of Allah (swt),
even in times where it seemed unpragmatic to do so. The Battle
of Badr illustrates that even where the
Muslims are out numbered by their enemy, with support of Allah
(swt) full mental preparation the Muslims
will be victorious. It begs whether the pragmatists would have
fought alongside Mohammed (saw) on the
day of Badar. ! Allah (swt) reminds us �This day I have perfected
your deen and completed my favour upon
you and chosen Islam as your way of life� [EMQ 5:3].
Therefor in all our actions/transactions we should refer to the
Quran and Sunnah for it came not just as a
message to the Arabs of Mecca but as a mercy to mankind. We must
never forget that Allah (swt) has said
�He doesn�t burden a soul with more than it can bear� [EMQ 2:286]
who our perceived interests clash with
Islam and Allah (swt) says �Say you �If your fathers, and your
sons and your brothers and your wives and
your clan and the wealth of your earnings and the trade of which
you fear loss and the houses of your
choice, these things are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger
and the struggling of His path, then wait
till Allah brings His Command.� And Allah guides not the disobedients�
[EMQ 9:24].
In fact the interest of the Muslim Ummah lie with obeying Allah
(swt), and His Messenger. However we
need to be steadfast for the pleasure of Allah (swt). Allah (swt)
says �Do they think they will be left to say
we believe, without being tested? Surely we had tested those
that come before them, Surely Allah will know
who are faithful and who make a lie� [EMQ 29:2-3]. Muslim countries,
whose leaders are silent in their
support for the Mujahideen.
The Russian administration as well as the Americans have ordered
them to stay silent, informing them that
terrorism is what they are. With respect to voting\supporting
parties based on kufr or going to the United
Nations we are reminded in the book of Allah (swt) "Do not take
the jews and the christians as allies" and
"rank hatred is uttered from their mouths and what their hearts
conceal is far worse"[TMQ 3:118].
For the mu'min (believer) we are told to hear and obey the command,
just as the Sahaba did when the
hukms were revealed for Allah (swt) says " What you think is
good for you maybe bad and what you think
is bad for you maybe good. You know not Allah knows best"[TMQ
2:216].
