Police break up fight at Malaysia ruling party branch
meeting
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 29 (AFP) - Police moved in to break
up a fight at a branch meeting of Malaysia's ruling
party, the official Bernama news agency said Tuesday.
It said police stopped the Monday night meeting of the
Tedong Pekan branch of the United Malays National
Organisation after members started shouting and
throwing chairs at each other.
Local police chief Mohamad Zaki Masroh said police
received three complaints from members. One said his
car was splashed with acid while two others claimed to
have been choked and elbowed.
Bernama said trouble was thought to have started over
the issue of whether members from elsewhere had the
right to attend.
Mohamad Zaki said police ordered the meeting stopped
as it was out of control. He said 30 officers were on
hand to bring the situation under control.
