A Young Muslimah Who Was Taught Well
A teacher with obvious liberal tendencies explains to her 4th grade class
that she is an atheist. She asks her class if they are atheists too. Not
really knowing what atheism is but wanting to be like their teacher,
their hands explode into the air like flashy fireworks and they gather
around her. There is, however, one exception. A beautiful
girl named Khadijah has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher
asks her why she has decided to be different.
"Because I'm not an atheist." "Then", asks the teacher, "What are you?
"I'm a Muslim. I believe in Allah, the Most High."
The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks
Khadijah why she is a Muslim. "Well, I was brought up knowing of and loving
Allah and His prophets, from Adam to Muhammad (pbuh). I have
also been taught of the Ansars and the Muhajirs and their struggles to
overcome many trials just because they wanted to practice Al-Islam in peace.
I know that my faith is one that teaches me self control and modesty. And, I
can find balance in a world that seems to keep so many off balance because I
have the Qur'an, our holy book and Hadith which is the teachings of the
final prophet, Muhammad Ibn Abdullah (pbuh). Besides, my mom is a Muslim,
and my dad is a Muslim, so I am a Muslim."
The teacher is now frustrated and angry because of Khadijah's obvious
faith. "Aha!!! That's no reason," she says with a yell. "What if your
mom was an idiot, and your dad was a moron. What could you be then?"
Scared from the teachers yelling, Khadijah's classmates began backing
away from their teacher.
However, unmoved by her teachers now boisterous tone, Khadijah looked
into her teachers eyes, took a few steps closer, smiled, and said,
"Then I would have been an atheist."
