DAP rejects invite to join forces with government
K Kabilan
2pm, THURS: DAP today rejected the call made by MCA president Dr Ling Liong
Sik for the opposition party to cooperate with the government and to forego
their ties with Barisan Alternatif.
DAP secretary-general Kerk Kim Hock told malaysiakini today it was not
possible for DAP to collaborate with the government as the differences of
philosophies between the government parties and DAP were too vast.
"Dr Ling should know DAP's principles and MCA's do not subscribe to the same
common beliefs," he said.
He, however, added that DAP was always prepared to cooperate with any
political party which shares the same common ground with it for the good of
the people and country.
"We joined forces with PAS in the opposition front because we share some of
common grounds despite having our differences," he said.
He was responding to The Star report today which quoted Dr Ling as calling
on DAP to leave BA and work with the government.
Kerk also!
said that the question of DAP pulling out of the opposition
alliance does arise at the moment despite mounting pressure from its
supporters to do so, as a result of a number of controversial policies
implemented by PAS (DAP to review ties with PAS in opposition alliance
, Aug 2).
"The issue at present is how to ensure the BA could sustain as an
alternative political movement in view of the various differences that have
arisen in the coalition," he said.
