CAIR LAUNCHES MUSLIM VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE
Activists and leaders given step-by-step instructions for political
participation
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/23/2000) - CAIR today announced that the American
Muslim Voter Registration Guide is now available to Muslim activists and
leaders nationwide. The guide provides step-by-step instructions for
increasing political participation in local Muslim communities.
The American Muslim Voter Registration Guide, prepared by CAIR's Research
Center, contains:
An explanation of why Muslims should participate in the political process in
order to promote what is good and to challenge injustice. (In two recent
surveys of American Muslims, more than 95 percent of the respondents favored
political participation.)
Instructions on how to conduct a voter registration drive. Friday, September
15 has been designated American Muslim Voter Registration Day.
A copy of the National Mail Voter Registration Form.

"Muslims have a duty to make a positive impact on this society, and voting
is one of the most effective means to accomplish this goal," said CAIR
Executive Director Nihad Awad. Awad added that Muslims must also use their
votes to promote morality and to challenge legislation and policies that
contradict Islamic values or threaten Muslim civil liberties.
