No pilot, so MAS flight delayed for hours

SEPANG - More than 80 passengers bound for Singapore
on a Malaysia
Airlines (MAS) flight on Sunday were stunned when they
were asked to
disembark as there was no pilot nor crew.

The flight, scheduled to leave at 10 pm, finally took
off at 4.15 am on
                  Monday.

MAS staff on duty said that the delay was in getting
the flight officer from
Kuching to Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Passenger William Pothier of the United States said
the passengers were
already on board Flight MH7167 when they were told to
disembark.

'We were told that the captain was on his way from
Kuching.'

He said that, about 9 pm, they were told the flight
would be delayed until 11
pm when the flight officer from Kuching was expected
to arrive.

About 10.40 pm, there was another announcement that
the flight would be
delayed until 11.20 pm to allow the captain to
transfer to their gate.

At 11.15 pm, the passengers were told the captain had
arrived and the flight
                  would leave at 11.40 pm.

However, at 11.55 pm they were informed that the
flight would be delayed
further because the captain could not be located.

Mr Pothier claimed that many passengers had missed
their international
                  connections.

A spokesman for MAS apologised and said there would be
an investigation.

'Initial reports received by us showed there was a
mix-up in the duty roster.

'Our ground staff did everything they could to ensure
that all passengers
were put on the next available flight.' --The
