Taliban reject grand Afghan assembly in Peshawar as
non-representative

ISLAMABAD (Out There News): Taliban have rejected a
peace conference held by The National Islamic Front of
Afghanistan (NIFA) in Peshawar, alleging that the
leaders attending were being told what to do by
Washington.
The National Islamic Front, led by Pir Syed Ahmad
Gailani, opposes both the Taliban government in
Afghanistan and the Northern Alliance opposition
movement which is currently fighting Taliban forces
north of Kabul.
Charge d'Affaires of the Taliban Embassy Sohail
Shaheen told Out There News by telephone that the
leaders present in the conference wanted to resolve
the Afghan issue through the eyes of their masters
sitting in the White House. "They have ignored the
country's history and the Afghan culture in their way
to follow the United States dictates in letter and
spirit," he said.
Shaheen said that these leaders could assure none of
their countrymen that their efforts were their own
idea. "They are just doing what is being told to them
by the Americans. What guarantee can these leaders
offer to Afghans that they are not linked with
Washington?" he questioned.
The Taliban diplomat said that no prominent Afghan
leaders have attended the NIFA conference and that it
will not have any bearing on future politics of the
country. "After the failure of its military strikes
against the Taliban militia, the United States has
resorted to cheap tactics and it is eager to topple
the Islamic Emirate through second grade leadership of
the country," he said.
